The coat of arms of Acquarica del Capo is a golden fountain from which rises a long gush of water; it was probably this symbol to represent the abundance of water in the area. The presence of the man in the territory of Acquarica del Capo, since ancient times, is testified by the findings occurred in the Cave of Our Lady of the Cave.
What we are talking about is, in fact, of relics from the Neolithic, the Paleolithic and also the Bronze Age. On the walls of the cave, which is six meters high, are also visible inscriptions dated back to the Byzantine era. About the origins of the center, several hypotheses have been put forward . It is believed, in fact, that Acquarica del Capo was founded in the fourth century AD because, as a land full of water, encouraged the establishment of the first populations.
Another hypothesis, probably the most reliable, is the one stating that, in the proximity of the place where today, is actually the town, in ancient times there were three estates: Cardigliano, Ceciovizzo and Pompignano. The country was born with the death of Pompignano in the IX-X century. Grew up with the fall of Ceciovizzo and Cardigliano; it was first called Acquarica de Lama then Centellas and finally Acquarica del Capo.
