There are few news come to us of Andrano, its original farmhouse and its castle. The best known are listed on the texts of local writers such as those of Cav. Luigi Maggiulli, Giacomo Arditi, Primaldo Coco. However, the oldest documents we have received are the ones by theTitle Deeds of the Angioin Office of the Registrar.
Giacomo Arditi in his work "La Corografia fisica e storica della Provincia di Terra d'Otranto ", reports the thesis of Cipolla according to which Andrano would have been founded by the Cretans. It has been ascertained that in the Vth century A.D. the Salento peninsula was invaded by the Vandals, many villages were destroyed and, among these, the Casale Cellino, from whose ruins arose Andranno (which in fact, the Cieco da Forlì says founded in 450).
The coat of arms of Andrano is a bundle of seven ears of grain, which is considered the most appropriate representation of both the main economic resource of the country and, the character of the people. Andrano lies on a fertile plateau that, being crossed by rich groundwater aquifers, is well suited to any cultivation.
The number of ears (seven) that make up the beam woukld symbolize the days of tireless work of the inhabitants, who were used to work seven days out of seven.
