Gagliano del Capo is a small and charming town on the Adriatic coast.
During the Angioin domination, between the XIIIth and XVth centuries, it became a fief of Isolda de Nocera, of the French soldier Guglielmo Brunel and Mariotto Corso. In 1495, Gagliano was granted by Ferdinando di Aragona to the family Castriota Scanderbegh, whose descendants lived in the castle of Gagliano, located next to the parish church.
The ancient village, built in the early Middle Ages, between 1413 and 1421, it was surrounded by walls. It became a refuge for the inhabitants of the neighboring territories: Valiano, Misciano, Prusano, Santu Dimitri, San Nicola and Vinciguerra.
In the XVIIth century the feuf passed to the Counts of Alessano and only in 1806 the village was free from any feudal bond. Over the centuries, Gagliano, although equipped with coastal towers like those of Montilongo and Novaglie, it had to endure the continuous attacks from the Saracens. In 1547 the Algerian pirate Dragut landed in Salve and attacked Gagliano doing all sorts of raid.
The two fractions of Arigliano and San Dana belong to the town as well.
