Patù is the extreme edge of Capo di Leuca
The foundation of the small town dates back to 924 AD by refugees from the nearby Vereto, destroyed by the Saracens. The place name derives from the greek for some pathos indicating the suffering of veretini, for centuries harassed by the Saracens, for others by Verduro Pato, keeper of the granaries of the lords of Vereto.
In 1318 they were the lords of the small town Sambiasi, after which the estate was sold to Capece, De Electis, the Diocesan Curia of Alessano, to Guarino and finally to Granafei.
The coat of arms depicts a cat who holds in teeth a fish on a field of gold. Despite being small, dense Patù is a common history.
