The city's name expresses a greeting, and at the same time a tempting invitation to visit the beauties of the place, to learn about the fascinating history of its civilization and the intoxicating vitality of seaside resorts.

The first human settlements in the territory of Salve are of about 60,000 years ago. As reflected in the findings of scrapers, gastropod, tips and bone fragments from Grotta Montani.

The village messapico the "Chiusa" at the Masseria del Fano, the subject of a series of excavations by a team of Australian archaeologists from the University of Sydney, has been inhabited since 1440 BC 470 BC, while the protoappenninico of Spigolizzi, located near the farms "Spigolizzi" and "Profichi" dates back to the Middle Bronze Age (XV-XVI century BC.).

The town of Salve was founded, according to legend, by the Roman centurion Salvius in 267 BC. Later he expanded following the destruction of two old houses that stood in the immediate vicinity.
