The human presence in the territory of Santa Cesarea Terme dates back to prehistoric times, and more specifically to the Middle Paleolithic, as documented by finds from the cave Le Striare, while Romanelli cave excavations and explorations have allowed to find work splintered bones, dating back to upper Paleolithic, and graffiti depicting human figures and animals.

Also was found a stone that is considered to be the oldest painting discovered in Italy.

The population of Vitigliano arise a menhir, mysterious funerary monument, and underground construction, called the Cisternale, dating messapica, structured tumulus with time bastion resting on a lintel supported by four pillars.

Santa Cesarea Terme extends over a green hillside sloping down to the sea.

Reaching it, one is immediately captivated by the clear emerald sea, the green of the majestic pine forests, enchanting town characterized by Moorish palaces (picturesque Palazzo Sticchi), stately villas and simple modern buildings painted white.

The rocky cliff, overlooking the sea, full of rocks and prehistoric caves, is enhanced by the cove of Porto Miggiano where, in a blaze of light and color, the transparent sea kisses the golden sand.

In the area there are beautiful watchtowers built to order difenivo in the sixteenth century. Of crucial importance are the Baths, the waters of which, highly curative, come from springs, gushing from four natural caves, of Gattula, Fedida, Solfurea and Solfatara.
