The origins of the village of San Cassiano seem to date from the beginning of the tenth century, it would seem in fact been founded by the survivors of the nearby town of Muro Leccese, then destroyed by the Saracens.
According to Arditi, the village would be so named in honor of Saint Cassian Anchorite.
After being part, under the Normans, the County of Lecce and then the Principality of Taranto, gradually became the possession of the Orsini del Balzo, d'Oria, of Lubello and finally the Frisari until 1806, date of the abolition of feudalism.
